Jimmy Possum Light
Matt was asked to design this light for an exhibition at Design Tasmania called Rethinking Jimmy Possum. The brief asked us to design a piece of furniture using objects at hand. Being a designer/maker you tend to have lots of materials lying around the workshop waiting for the next job. King Billy Pine strips, that were leftovers from a neighbours boat project, were my 'materials at hand' for this piece. The pliable nature and boat-making heritage of the material begged for a curved canoe-like form. The entire structure sits inside a steel base, a spare Wedge Stand base I had lying around the house, and most of the electrical components were spares sitting under my workbench from previous lighting tests. I have searched, sorted and scrounged up almost all of the materials needed for this project, minimising the need for new materials. 1800 mm x 600 Ø mm King Billy Pine, Powdercoated Steel Exhibition Piece Photo: Bruce Moyle |
