The inspiration for Rockpool came from a simple river stone and the intrinsic connection that we, as humans, have with organic objects. It was conceived as a ritual object that taps into the subconscious activities that we perform every day, such as putting keys into a bowl. It’s raw and honest simplicity means that it can be used for a multitude of ‘rituals’ and can connect with a wider audience.
Rockpool has been CNC machined using a flip milling technique in order to minimise milling times, wastage, and produce the most cost efficient process. The final stages of shaping are done by hand, then the bowl is finished with a wipe on polyurethane. The timber is sourced, and all processes occurred within Tasmania. The design is scalable to many different sizes and is able to be produced in different materials to suit a wider range of applications.
